A Card for my dad


As I promised, today I am sharing the card I made for my Dad's birthday. Okay, so this isn't the card I actually sent him, his said Happy Birthday on it, but it is the same other than that. I had to make two because I liked it so much! As most of you know, it can be tricky to make cards for the men in our lives. They really aren't into all the flowers and ribbons and bling and all that girly stuff. I had to think for a while before I came up with this one. I remember being at a SU convention years ago where Kevin Theason was doing a booth using wheels I believe. He and another male demonstrator gave those around the booth a quick tip on "male cards." He told us to stay away from the soft subtles and bold brights. Guys were much more comfortable with the earth elements and rich regals. So, with that in mind, I went to my Earth Elements paper and picked out this summer sun. I liked the way the summer sun looked next to this patterned paper from the Sarah collection so that was by base. I just took some paper snips and cut a deep curvy shape across the paper and then stuck it down. I pulled out my seeing spots and stamped them in Cranberry, summer sun, and always artichoke. I used the awesome circle punches and punched them all out. I layed the circles out along the curvy line til they looked balanced and then stuck them all down. I added the ribbons around the bottom of the card and then to anchor it all I put three black mini brads in random circles. The happy birthday I used for dad was from the Cheery Chat set, this card uses words from the Sincere Salutations. ( I think the cheery chat looked better) this card ended up being a 5 x 5 square card. I am just in love with the square cards! So much more room to play with!

I'm going to guess Doodle This (b/c I know you at least have that one for sure and it's so much fun!!!) Great male card by the way and the tip was a good one too!

I'm going to guess the set with the bear and the giraffe. I can't remember what it's called. This card is great! I need to make some manly cards. Birthdays are coming up.

Bloggers challenge and candy

I know I said I would post some blog candy yesterday but I didn't even get near my computer! What a crazy day! I had planned on doing it the night before but...I was in the kitchen doing the dishes and I was so dog tired that I laid my head down on the counter for a minute. My son came into the room and said, "go to bed mom, dad and I will do the dishes." Now, who in thier right mind would turn down that offer? My boys HATE to do anything in the kitchen that doesn't involve eating. I immediately turned off my water(boiling for herb tea) and skedaddled upstairs and went to bed. I'm no dummy! Doubles with candy!!

Today is another fun summer day at my house. The kids are running here and there and I'm just trying to keep up. I realized I hadn't sent out Father's day cards yet, so that is what I worked on today. I tried to keep these nice and clean and manly. I remember going to a demonstration at a Stampin' Up! convention years ago where Kevin Theeson and another guy(I forget his name....) talked about 'manly' cards. One of the things they stressed was that guys don't like cards made with pastel cards. They prefer bold bright and earth element colors. I'm not sure if they suggested we stay away from florals too, but I kind of figured that was a safe idea. ;o) For this card I started with some textured Wild Wasabi cardstock cut to 10-1/2 x 5-1/4. That gave me a 5-1/4" card when folded. The striped paper across the center is from a retired SU simply scrappin kit...primary colors I think it was called.
