It's Friday again...

It's that time again, time for the Friday Bloggers challenge! This week our theme was Graduation. I still had my brand new Taffy alphabet out on my desk so I decided to use that. I just love these letters! I started with a piece of textured Wasabi cardstock from Stampin' Up! It was already cut to 6-1/2 (scrap pile!) so I left it that wide. I scored it at 3" and then 6" and then cut it at 8". I folded on the the score lines and adhered the last 2 inch piece down on the sides to form a pocket on the inside of the card. I used mini brads on the sides to make sure it stayed together. Sticky strip would have been a good choice for this but I was using Dotto. On the front of the card, I layered a piece of patterned paper from a past Simply scrappin kit. The stripes are one side of the paper and the narrow blue border around conGRADs is the other side. I stamped com s in blue bayou and GRAD in pumpkin pie. I thought it was a clever way to say congrats grad. I'm sure it isn't original. I traced over the pumpkin pie letters with my orange stickles. (I've been looking for a way to use that color!) I used the big and small star punches to punch a hollow star out of pumpkin pie cardstock and then strung it onto a piece of wild wasabi stitched ribbon I wrapped around the front of the card. Three vintage mini brads on the bottom right finish it off. Oh my goodness! This is a bit masculine, isn't it? I am amazed at me! Without even trying....now, if I only knew a male that was graduating.....
In other news, Thor and I went to the BCC planetarium with Ben's class today on a field trip. It was a lot of fun. Ben's teacher kept commenting on how much the two boys looked alike. It is kind of funny how these two boys look alike and my other two boys look alike but, my girls are totally different. Yet, they all look like their dad!
Be sure to check out all the other blogger challenge players. If you click on the link at the left, it will bring up a list of them and their links. There are some great artists on there! Enjoy!

Very creative Beckie! These are such fun colors together! What a wonderful design too! :D
The sentiment may not be totally original but I think the way you put "grad" in a different color is a great idea! Awesome card!

Your card turned out great. Coincidentally, I almost used the words "Congrads" on my card too since I don't own many graduation stamps, but then I found my graduation greeting from all year cheer. Your card really rocks!

I like this card! I think that's because I tend to go for simplicity. The simpleness of the layout and sentiment is brightened with the colors. Good job!

Bradley

Sunday, my best friend died. My sweetheart of 20 years died suddenly from diabetes. We didn't know he had diabetes. It came quick and took him from me. Brad was more than just my husband, he was my best friend. I relied so very much on his strength to guide me and my children through this life. I admit I feel a bit lost without him, already. I had planned on much, much more time with him. Brad and I met on January 28th, 1989. We were both at a nightclub for under age night with our friends that had dragged us there. We were both ready to leave when we were talked into one more dance. That dance changed our lives. We hit it off right away and danced the rest of the night. In face, we were together from then on. I remember that after that night, I waited all day for his call. It was love right away for me. I felt something I had never felt before and knew that he was the one for me. We dated for six months before Brad went to Texas to go to school. We talked a lot on the phone, and I...

Blog candy!!

I am almost to 1000 hits on my blog so I am giving away some blog candy! I've got a cool stamped canvas ready for your picture, some clear and colored buttons, sticky tiles, a stampin sponge, and a stack of about 50 coasters ready for your creativity! To be entered in the drawing for the blog candy, please answer the following question. I will draw a winner tomorrow (Friday) night and post the winner on Saturday after I get back from the SU regional in Tampa. Q: What is the last book you read that really inspired you?

Doubles with candy!!

Today is another fun summer day at my house. The kids are running here and there and I'm just trying to keep up. I realized I hadn't sent out Father's day cards yet, so that is what I worked on today. I tried to keep these nice and clean and manly. I remember going to a demonstration at a Stampin' Up! convention years ago where Kevin Theeson and another guy(I forget his name....) talked about 'manly' cards. One of the things they stressed was that guys don't like cards made with pastel cards. They prefer bold bright and earth element colors. I'm not sure if they suggested we stay away from florals too, but I kind of figured that was a safe idea. ;o) For this card I started with some textured Wild Wasabi cardstock cut to 10-1/2 x 5-1/4. That gave me a 5-1/4" card when folded. The striped paper across the center is from a retired SU simply scrappin kit...primary colors I think it was called. I added a strip of Real Red to each side of the stripes for...
