In the spirit of Memorial Day weekend, I did another red, white and blue project. I also wanted to do a project that showed off some of the great chipboard elements Stampin' Up! has on sale this month. I love working with chipboard! It is so easy to use and versatile. You can do a lot with it, either as an element on something or as a stand alone project.
I had these pictures of my E left over from another layout I did a while ago. They didn't fit on the layout but were just too cute to throw out. they all started out as 4 x 6 prints, but I cut down the two smaller ones to focus in on his royal cuteness. Because I was going to use chipboard on this page, I made my card base a bit stronger by layering three full pieces of papers. One Taken with teal piece of cardstock, one vanilla piece of cardstock, and a sheet of Ginger blossom designer paper. Normally, I would cut out the middles of the layers to use elsewhere. I rubbed the edges of the vanilla and teal with chocolate chip ink and used a vanilla pad direct to paper to shade the edge of the ginger. The photo corners were made with chocolate chip cardstock and punched with the SU photo corner punch. You can't really see it here, but I used my paper piercer to add some faux stitching to the corners as well. I mounted my pictures with more Taken with Teal cardstock and set them out randomly on the paper. For the yellow circle, I used a yoyo yellow craft spot to rub ink directly onto the chipboard. after that was dry I used a sponge to add chocolate chip ink to the sides and to soften the yellow a bit. For the "e" I used a real red spot and chocolate ink again. I used the paper piercer and my piercer guide from the SU crafter's kit to make the line of holes and x holes. My handy white gel pen made the faux stitch lines. For the chipboard heart, I put liquid Tombow on the back of the heart and then stuck it to creamy caramel cardstock. After it dried for a few seconds, I cut it out with my paper snips and sanded the edges with a sanding block. The design on the heart is the SU sanded background stamp with chocolate chip ink. To make it look more rustic and soft, I sponged the edges and a lot of the heart itself with more chocolate ink. "than" is stamped in craft chocolate ink to finish "ethan". (I hope that is obvious....)
There are different ways to adhere your chipboard. I usually use glue dots, but since I had my Tombow out, I used that instead to glue down the circle and heart. For the 'e', since it was layered over part of the heart, I used dimensionals.
oh, one more thing, the little 'ribbon' around my heart is just a thin strip of the ginger paper wrapped and folded around the heart. I used the cropadile to punch a hole for my rhinestone brad.
These are colors I don't think I would have used together, but...I really like how they turned out!
