Friday challenge returns

I really REALLY wanted to do the Friday challenge last week but, I was sick as a dog! (where did that saying come from?) I never get sick, well...really rarely do I get sick. I kept thinking it was just allergies, but apparently it wasn't. I am finally feeling better. (knock on wood!) Of course, I felt so good I went out and raked leaves and now it IS allergies! LOL Such a smart one!
Today our challenge was to alter something. Believe it or not, I have a drawer full of stuff that I collect for that very purpose! I pulled out this cool little thing that came in the mail and decided it would be my victim today. It has a magnetic closing thing...magic...so, I had to keep it! Here it is all naked and 'un-altered'.

I covered it with Stampin' Up! designer paper using Tombow Liquid glue on the back and sticky strip on the edges. It was a bit tricky to get the paper smooth around all the corners, but it looks pretty good. I sponged all the edges with close to cocoa ink to give it a finished, altered look/feel. Because of all the added paper, the cool magnetic closure didn't work any more. :o( so, I used a cool magnetic clasp I picked up somewhere and threaded some Baja Breeze ribbon through it. I folded the ribbon over and stuck it to itself with sticky strip and put a bit of sticky strip under the ribbon to hold it to the box.

I put a little note pad inside (had to cut that down with my Carl Cutter a bit) and covered a (broken off) pen with more DSP I didn't have much room inside for demensional embellisments, so I kept it simple with a couple stamped images. I sponged everything heavily with a combination of close to cocoa, creamy caramel and brocade blue inks. I love how these colors look together!
I can't wait to see what awesome projects the other BC gals come up with. I loved this challenge and actually have some other items out on my desk awaiting their 'face lifts.' I'll try and post them soon.
Have a great Friday!

Fridays challenge #63

This week has been crazy. We had a fun Labor day and then actually went to school the rest of the week! The storms decided to stay away for a while. I'm glad. Our challenge this time was a color challenge. The colors are Ridinghood red, Tangerine and Pacific Point. All new In Colors at Stampin' Up! for the new catalog. I love all these colors but, together....they were a challenge! I decided to play up the red and blue and use the tangerine as a highlight. I pulled out my True Friend stamp set and stamped the large medallion style stamp all over the ridinghood red using my basic black stamp pad. It looked okay....but then I remembered the Banadana technique Pat shared in a recent Technique Junkie newsletter . You all know how much I LOVE my white gel pen, so...I went to work. I won't tell you how the bandana technique works, you'll have to visit Pat for that info. She puts out a fabulous newsletter every other month, FULL of great stampin ideas. I hear she has some gre...

Birthday blog candy!

In honor of my birthday, I am offering another package of blog candy! All you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me your favorite thing about getting older. :o) The candy includes a package of cardstock, metal edge tags, sanding block, cool metal border stickers, silver gel pen, and a set of mini gift cards stamped by yours truly. For some reason, my 'rechargeable batteries' decided not to 'recharge' anymore. I am quite distraught about that. I planned to share these pictures a couple of days ago, but....I had to wait til I bought some new batteries. I have to say tho, I was really afraid I had broken my camera! I'm glad it is just the batteries! I borrowed my friend's Precious stamp set the other day and have been having fun with it! I made this card using a square card base of chocolate chip (5-12" square). I stamped the swirlies in blue bayou onto a large piece of whisper white and onto a smaller piece. I cut out a butterfly and stuck i...

Soccer, projects and....Blog Candy!!

Okay, I know I promised to post some blog candy a couple days ago but, what was I thinking? The weekend has become the crazy part of my week! We have entered the World of Soccer. All you soccer moms out there will totally know what I am talking about. We are still in the little leagues of it, only one practice a week and one game. Per child of course....I'm glad my son decided he didn't want to play. Two kids is enough! It was a beautiful weekend tho. The weather was awesome. The sun got bright during the afternoon game, but every few minutes it would rain so, it kept us nice an comfy. Only in Florida can you have rain on a sunny day. It is one of the wonders of the world. I put together a few goodies for Blog Candy today. I have been having way too much fun making stuff with coasters and patterned paper lately. Stampin' Up! has made it even easier to use these two items together by offering the Tombow Liquid Adhesive. If you haven't used it, you've got to! It is aw...
