I 'was' on time!

Because of life and all the changes our family has gone through over the past few months, I took a bit of a break from the Friday Blogger Challenges. But last week, I decided I was ready to jump back in! So, I made my card and had it ready on time! Unfortunately, it was also my mother-in-law's birthday card and I walked out the door to her suprise party without a picture! Arg! So, I had to make it again. It is a super easy card, but I love all the dimension on it!
Our challenge was 'punches or dies.'
Believe it or not, I went for punches this time! You know I love that Big Shot, but my punches were feeling a bit neglected.
The card I made for my MIL was actually Real red and Tempting Turquoise, to match the cool gift box I bought her. It looked surprising good together!  I had seen these two new In Colors together somewhere and decided to try the card with them. I love it! The colors are Bermuda Bay and Rich Razzleberry. Razzleberry looks a lot like the original Eggplant from Stampin' Up! I love it! Now for the details: The base is made from Razzleberry with a layer of Bermuda over that. I stamped the scalloped medallions from Circle Circus with Razzleberry and punched them out with the scallop circle punch. Then I stamped the smaller circle from the same set with the Bermuda and punched those out with the 1' circle punch. I adhered the scalloped circles to the Bermuda, letting them hang over here and there, and then just trimmed them off at the card edges. The smaller circles are adhered with dimensionals. The awesome peacock is from this year's Ronald McDonald House Charities stamp set called, Very Thankful. I used the In Color markers ( love that we have there!!) to color directly onto the stamp, omitting the 'thank you' part. I stamped the birthday greeting with razzleberry, sponged the edges and stuck it all together. The fun part is that it is really dimensional! Because the circles are popped, I had to pop up the peacock and because it was popped, the greeting is actually double popped! You can't see it here, but there is a bit of glitter on the peacocks tail, just to top it off.
In other news, I started back to college yesterday.  It is something I have been wanting to do for a long time, but I just couldn't find the time or motivation. Now, I have it and I'm going! It wasn't nearly as scary as I had anticipated! I wasn't the oldest person in the room at all. There is a great mix of ages in the students at community college.  If all goes well, I should have my degree in a couple years. I had a blast! Mae is going to...but different classes for some reason....maybe I cramp her style? :o)

Bradley

Sunday, my best friend died. My sweetheart of 20 years died suddenly from diabetes. We didn't know he had diabetes. It came quick and took him from me. Brad was more than just my husband, he was my best friend. I relied so very much on his strength to guide me and my children through this life. I admit I feel a bit lost without him, already. I had planned on much, much more time with him. Brad and I met on January 28th, 1989. We were both at a nightclub for under age night with our friends that had dragged us there. We were both ready to leave when we were talked into one more dance. That dance changed our lives. We hit it off right away and danced the rest of the night. In face, we were together from then on. I remember that after that night, I waited all day for his call. It was love right away for me. I felt something I had never felt before and knew that he was the one for me. We dated for six months before Brad went to Texas to go to school. We talked a lot on the phone, and I...

Blog candy!!

I am almost to 1000 hits on my blog so I am giving away some blog candy! I've got a cool stamped canvas ready for your picture, some clear and colored buttons, sticky tiles, a stampin sponge, and a stack of about 50 coasters ready for your creativity! To be entered in the drawing for the blog candy, please answer the following question. I will draw a winner tomorrow (Friday) night and post the winner on Saturday after I get back from the SU regional in Tampa. Q: What is the last book you read that really inspired you?

Doubles with candy!!

Today is another fun summer day at my house. The kids are running here and there and I'm just trying to keep up. I realized I hadn't sent out Father's day cards yet, so that is what I worked on today. I tried to keep these nice and clean and manly. I remember going to a demonstration at a Stampin' Up! convention years ago where Kevin Theeson and another guy(I forget his name....) talked about 'manly' cards. One of the things they stressed was that guys don't like cards made with pastel cards. They prefer bold bright and earth element colors. I'm not sure if they suggested we stay away from florals too, but I kind of figured that was a safe idea. ;o) For this card I started with some textured Wild Wasabi cardstock cut to 10-1/2 x 5-1/4. That gave me a 5-1/4" card when folded. The striped paper across the center is from a retired SU simply scrappin kit...primary colors I think it was called. I added a strip of Real Red to each side of the stripes for...
