This week our challenge was to use the layout from the birthday card on page 42 of the SU catalog. This is a very simple, doable card. I jazzed mine up just a bit. Not too much! I started by flipping through my berry bliss paper for inspiration and then stopped! "I cannot do another pink and brown card! "I told myself. So, I reached for my scrap basket instead. This card does have brown but...baby steps, right?! ;o) My card base is Chocolate chip with a slightly smaller piece of designer paper from last year's western packet. This set had a bit more green, this year is more blue. I like them both! Anyway, the paper came with the nice sponging effect on the edges, so I mimiced that onto the strip of mellow moss I placed across the middle. I cut the edge with some very old SU scallop shears. I wish me still had those..... I layered a piece of brown satin ribbon (theater collection) across the moss and stuck them down. The focal point is from the Wanted set. I stamped the chocolate square with chocolate using the medallion stamp and layered my scallop punched horse on top. I roughed up the edges of the square with a nail file....didn't want to get up from my desk again....and sandwiched all the layers with pop dots. I used my cropadile to punch through the ribbon tab and put a star brad that I roughed up through there. If you are ever trying to punch through ribbon, it can be tricky because the ribbon wants to move around. A trick I use is to put cardstock behind the ribbon, or in this case, between the ribbons, to stabilize it. Works like a charm! The birthday greeting is from Hugs and Wishes.
In other news, my kids are well today....I had one home with a touch of the flu on Wednesday but she was back yesterday. We stayed out late last night watching the Spiderwick Chronicles...I just love Freddie Highmore! It was a cute movie but it did get a bit scary for my littlest one. My son's are is healing well. He has been riding his electric skooter and playing basket ball so, he isn't is any pain. And can I just say again how grateful I am for the waterproof cast? 12 year old boy, very active....yes, we are SO glad he can shower! Love him!
